Introduction

On October 8, 2021, China’s online food delivery and services on-demand platform Meituan was fined US$530 million by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), the regulator that operates under the government of the People’s Republic of China, for antitrust violations. The company was penalized for forcing restaurants and merchants to enter into exclusivity agreements with it under a policy known as ‘pick one from two’ to be listed on its online platform.
